Hearing Test Predict Autism

The information below appeared on BottomLine Personal Magazine, October 15, 2016. It's a brief summary on how a hearing test may be able to predict autism.

"Hearing test may predict autism even before a child is able to speak. The noninvasive test looks for hearing difficulty in the frequency range of 1-2 kilohertz, which is important for processing speech. The more hearing impairment in that frequency, the greater the severity of autism symptoms in children with autism, on average. The experimental test can be done by specially trained physicians and psychologists in very young children, allowing autism treatment to start as early as age two, when it may be more effective. Currently, autism usually is not diagnosed until a child is at least four years old."

"Study of 77 boys led by researchers from University of Rochester, New York, published in Autism Research."
